About Me

About me...

Hello and welcome to Yarn By The River.

I'm Julie-Anne. Teacher, mum of 2 and now business owner. I have always been a crafty person with a love of anything to do with creating beautiful things. From a young age, I have been influenced by the beautiful women in my life to sew, knit, crochet, macrame. I have also been influenced by the loving men in my life to revive the old back to it's former glory or for use in other ways. I love timeless crafts and timeless pieces. There is something precious about these crafts and things which bring a sense of calm to me. I find crafting a mindful way to spend time.

As I said, I'm a mum of two and a teacher by trade, and as many working mum's will tell you, it's hard to find the time to do things for you. So, I made the time by purchasing this store in 2018. Some may say that it crazy, but it has actually stopped me from going crazy! I still teach (3 days a week) and indulge in my timeless, mindful passion for the rest of the week, hence this is why the store is only open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday mornings.

Yarn By The River as a business, started in the back room of a teacher colleague's home in 2014. As the business grew, it moved to it's current location at 93 East Street in the beautiful town of Narrandera on Wiradjuri country in NSW, Australia. It is a boutique store stocking gorgeous yarns from Australia and around the world. Along with these gorgeous yarns, I also stock  accessories, patterns and a huge selection of buttons to complete any project. I am also starting to branch out into gifts and other crafts.

I do not profess to being an expert in any craft, but it is something I love to do and I hope that I can help others to see that crafting can be a mindful pastime, a way to relax and unwind from the stresses that life can bring. I hope that I can pass on the knowledge I have gained over my years of crafting and inspire a new generation to continue the timeless crafts into the future.

As well as products for sale, I also offer workshops for all ages and skill levels in knitting, crochet and macrame, so whether you are a beginner needing lessons, an intermediate wanting to learn something new or an experienced crafter just wanting to be inspired to start your next project, Yarn By The River is for you! It is the perfect place where you can be inspired to create your own gorgeous timeless pieces. Check out my Facebook and Instagram pages for more details about the current workshops on offer.

Regular Social Yarning sessions allow you to take time to unwind and enjoy the company of others, as well as a beverage, whilst working on that project. I find that working with yarn is great for mindfulness and mental health and studies are now showing this to be a fact. I encourage you to join our Social Yarning sessions. Dates can be found on my Social Media channels.

While these are set yarning sessions, I am happy for you to pop in at any time. Come in, sit for while, knit, crochet, macrame, chat, learn, share, shop, or just take in the beauty and enjoyment that yarn can bring.

My store and studio is located at 93 East Street in the beautiful town of Narrandera in the Riverina Region of NSW, Australia.
